On October 28, 2025, Quy Nhon University (QNU) received and held a working session with a delegation from Ashikaga City, Tochigi Prefecture, Japan. The delegation was led by Mr. Naohide Hayakawa, Mayor of Ashikaga City, accompanied by Professor Yoshitaka Suetake, President of Ashikaga University, along with representatives from various governmental agencies, departments, and enterprises in the city.

Associate Professor Dr. Doan Duc Tung, Rector of QNU, emphasized that this marked the second time the university had the honor of hosting a working delegation from Ashikaga City.

The Rector highlighted the university's multidisciplinary training programs across diverse fields, its high-quality faculty with over 50% holding doctoral degrees or higher, and its extensive international cooperation network with partners worldwide. Notably, QNU is the only educational institution in the Asia-Pacific region to receive VLIR-UOS funding for the IUC-QNU program for the period 2022-2032.
In the field of cooperation with Japan, QNU has signed memoranda of understanding with numerous organizations and universities, including J.TEST, JICA, the Japan Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (JAIST), Nippon Sport Science University (NSSU), Bluebird Vietnam Co., Ltd., Mai Tin Co., Ltd., and Ashikaga University. The university is also offering a major in Japanese Studies (Oriental Studies) to provide quality human resources for Japanese enterprises.

Additionally, the Mayor discussed the city's aging population and labor shortage challenges in Ashikaga, expressing his hope to welcome more outstanding students from QNU to study and work there, thereby strengthening the ties between Gia Lai Province and Ashikaga City.

Following the working session, Professor Yoshitaka Suetake, Rector of Ashikaga University, provided an overview of the university's training programs and its two main faculties: Engineering and Nursing. Both sides also discussed the requirements for accepting international students, which include Japanese language proficiency of N3 or higher for undergraduate programs, and English communication skills for graduate programs.

During the meeting, Japanese enterprises expressed high regard for Vietnamese human resources, particularly in the fields of information technology and artificial intelligence. These companies hope that QNU will strengthen Japanese language training and provide in-depth expertise in information technology, engineering, artificial intelligence, and related fields to meet the labor market demands in Ashikaga.
