The event was jointly organized by the Vietnam Mathematical Society, Quy Nhon University, and the University of Natural Sciences under Vietnam National University, Hanoi. It drew the attendance of leaders and representatives from government bodies, universities, and academies, alongside a large number of lecturers and students from across the country. As a prestigious annual academic event, the Olympiad plays a vital role in fostering an environment of intellectual exchange, collaborative learning, and the development of critical thinking among the younger generation of mathematics enthusiasts.
Addressing the Opening Ceremony, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Doan Trung Cuong — Vice President and Secretary-General of the Vietnam Mathematical Society and Head of the Organizing Committee — reflected on the Olympiad's remarkable journey of over three decades. From modest beginnings with just three participating institutions in 1993, the competition has grown into one of the largest and most respected academic events in the country, capturing the enthusiasm of lecturers, university students, and high school pupils alike. A particularly significant milestone has been the past decade of expanded participation, which opened the competition to students from specialized and high-quality upper secondary schools nationwide, greatly broadening its reach and reinforcing its long-term vitality. Against the backdrop of rapid advances in artificial intelligence and modern technology, he emphasized the foundational importance of mathematics, encouraging all competitors to embrace their potential, compete with confidence, and regard the Olympiad as an invaluable opportunity for growth, learning, and human connection.

This year's competition welcomed 90 delegations from universities and academies across the country, with a total attendance of more than 850 people, including 660 students competing in Algebra and Analysis. The academic programme ran from April 7 to April 10, 2026, featuring rigorous examinations alongside a diverse range of satellite events — among them an academic symposium and a roundtable discussion on the application of AI tools in the teaching and learning of university-level mathematics, as well as cultural exchange and social activities. Far more than a showcase of individual ability, the Olympiad serves as a catalyst for a broader culture of academic inquiry and scientific research among students, while also strengthening ties between mathematics departments and faculties across the nation.
Speaking on behalf of the host institution, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Doan Duc Tung, Rector of Quy Nhon University, expressed his deep pride that the university had been chosen to host the Olympiad for the third time, following previous editions in 2011 and 2016. Being entrusted with this responsibility on multiple occasions is not merely a source of institutional pride — it reflects the wider academic community's recognition of QNU's organizational capabilities, educational quality, and enduring contributions to the advancement of mathematics in Vietnam. Over nearly five decades of growth and development, Quy Nhon University has steadily established itself as a leading institution for teaching and scientific research in the Central and Central Highlands regions, and indeed across the country as a whole.
Today, QNU is home to more than 16,000 undergraduate students and approximately 1,000 postgraduate students, offering 53 undergraduate programmes, 24 master's programmes, and 5 doctoral programmes. The fundamental sciences — mathematics in particular — have always been a priority area of development. The university currently enrolls 378 undergraduate students in mathematics-related programmes, including Mathematics Education, Applied Mathematics, and Data Science, alongside more than 150 master's students and doctoral candidates specializing in fields such as Algebra and Number Theory, Mathematical Analysis, Elementary Mathematics Methods, and Data Science. These students form the core workforce in mathematical education, research, and application — disciplines that are assuming ever-greater importance in the era of digital transformation and the rapid rise of artificial intelligence, contributing directly to the supply of high-quality human resources for society.

For this year's competition, Quy Nhon University fielded a delegation of 2 lecturers and 6 students from the Mathematics Education and Applied Mathematics programmes, competing in both Algebra and Analysis. At the same time, the university invested considerable effort in preparing its facilities, organizational arrangements, and logistical support to ensure that the competition was conducted with rigor, safety, and full compliance with examination regulations.
