In the academic year 1994-1995, Quy Nhon University collaborated with the National Economic University in Hanoi to open a class in Business Administration for Tourism and Hotel Management. It can be said that this collaboration was the “first brick” laying the foundation for the development of the Accounting, Economics, Finance, and Business Administration currently being taught at Quy Nhon University. In the early 2000s, there was a high demand for a workforce in these fields in the coastal provinces of Central and South Central Vietnam, as well as in the Central Highlands. Alongside this, the strength and growth of the lecturers in the Economics fields at Quy Nhon University after 7 years of collaborative training laid a favorable foundation for the establishment of the Faculty of Economics & Business Administration on March 27, 2002, according to Decision No. 1247/QD-BGD&DT issued by the Ministry of Education and Training.
From the early days of its establishment, the Faculty recognized the role and mission of the Faculty, as well as the assistance from its partner schools, to rapidly develop modern training programs for economic disciplines. In teaching, there was a harmonious collaboration between the Faculty's lecturers and highly qualified lecturers from partner universities, ensuring the provision of high-quality education to students studying Economics. The Faculty has made significant progress in training, scientific research, and faculty development. Its position has been increasingly affirmed and has earned the trust of students. Evidence of this can be seen in the achieved training results during the period from 2002 to 2009, with a total of 1,952 regular students graduating and a total of 2,097 non-regular students graduating.
To further leverage the strengths achieved in the development of disciplines in the field of Economics, on October 14, 2009, the Rector of Quy Nhon University issued Decision No. 1231/QD-DHQN to establish the Department of Economics and Accounting and the Department of Finance, Banking, and Business Administration by separating them from the Faculty of Economics & Business Administration. After the establishment of the new name - Economics and Accounting, the Department boldly expanded its scale and increased the number of specialized training majors. In conjunction with this, adjustments were made to the training objectives, and the curriculum was compiled, revised, and improved to align with the new training requirements. The lecturers of the Department also experienced rapid development. In 2009, there were only 22 lecturers providing training for two majors: Investment Economics and Accounting. However, by the end of 2023, the number of lecturers had increased to 45, including 1 Associate Professor, 17 Doctors, and 27 Masters (among whom 12 were engaged in Ph.D. programs). They were allocated across five divisions: Accounting, Audit, Economic Analysis, Economics, and Economic Mathematics. They were responsible for undergraduate programs in Economics (including Development Economics and Investment Economics), Accounting (including high-quality programs and general programs), and Auditing. Additionally, they provided postgraduate training (Master's and Ph.D.) in Accounting.
In addition to training activities, the Department of Economics and Accounting emphasizes scientific research and actively participates in providing consultancy on economic and social development solutions for Binh Dinh province (where Quy Nhon University is located) as well as other provinces in the region. The faculty also contributes to curriculum development and prepares lectures to support training activities. Some lecturers have been leading research projects at the international, national, ministerial, and provincial levels. Numerous high-quality research papers by faculty members in the Department have been published in prestigious journals both domestically and internationally, including articles published in Web of Science/Scopus. Additionally, the Department consistently takes proactive steps to enhance the exchange of expertise with leading domestic universities to refine training programs and foster lecturer capabilities. Many lecturers within the Department also actively collaborate and establish relationships with research and educational institutions abroad, including those in the United States, France, Belgium, Australia, Thailand, Taiwan, etc.
Providing high-level human resources training has always been the primary goal of the Department throughout its development stages. To achieve this objective, the Department consistently updates its curriculum, adopts advanced programs, and closely aligns with the practical needs of the country. In the upcoming period, the Department will focus its resources on developing into a reputable institution for training and research in the fields of Economics and Accounting, both regionally and nationally. It actively seeks to expand collaboration in training and research with reputable domestic institutions and harnesses all available resources to enhance international cooperation.
