DLR - On the morning of September 30, Quy Nhon University solemnly held the Ceremony to Announce and Present the Decision on the Appointment of the Rector for the 2025–2030 term. This event holds great significance, marking a new milestone in the University’s efforts to strengthen and consolidate its leadership team.
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Doan Duc Tung has served as Rector of Quy Nhon University for the 2020–2025 term since July 1, 2024. Under his leadership, the University has implemented numerous strategic decisions and development directions that have significantly enhanced its reputation across various fields. Activities ranging from training and scientific research to community service have been effectively built upon and further strengthened, yielding positive improvements in both quality and efficiency.

At the ceremony, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Van Phuc, Deputy Minister of Education and Training, presented the Decision recognizing Assoc. Prof. Dr. Doan Duc Tung as Rector of Quy Nhon University for the 2025–2030 term. Deputy Minister Nguyen Van Phuc congratulated Dr. Tung on earning the trust and confidence of the University Party Committee, its leadership team, and the Ministry of Education and Training in continuing to assume this significant responsibility.

According to the Deputy Minister, over nearly half a century of establishment and development, Quy Nhon University—located in the administrative center of Gia Lai Province before the provincial merger—has continuously grown into a multidisciplinary university committed to training high-quality human resources, particularly in the fields of education and natural sciences. The University has affirmed its standing and reputation within Vietnam’s higher education system, making significant contributions to education, scientific research, and technology transfer in the South Central Coast and Central Highlands regions, as well as nationwide. Remarkably, Quy Nhon University is among 14 key educational institutions designated by the Prime Minister as part of the national network for teacher training for the 2021–2030 period, with a vision toward 2050.
On behalf of the Ministry of Education and Training, the Deputy Minister commended and recognized the University’s achievements and efforts over the past period, expressing confidence that these accomplishments would serve as a strong foundation and driving force for the University’s continued advancement in the future. He expressed his hope that Assoc. Prof. Dr. Doan Duc Tung would continue to learn, enhance his knowledge and management capacity, and foster a spirit of innovation and creativity. Together with the University’s leadership team, he is expected to further develop the institution’s areas of strength and steadily build Quy Nhon University into a distinguished higher education institution that embodies its core values: Responsibility – Professionalism – Quality – Creativity – Humanity.

The Deputy Minister urged Assoc. Prof. Dr. Doan Duc Tung and the University’s leadership to give close attention to directing and thoroughly implementing the instructions of Party General Secretary To Lam and the resolutions of the Politburo, thereby developing an action plan for the University’s innovation-driven and sustainable growth. He emphasized the need to enhance training quality, particularly in education and STEM disciplines, strengthen the connection between scientific research and practical application, and develop a highly qualified faculty with strong research capabilities. At the same time, the University should expand international cooperation to further elevate its reputation, brand, and standing both nationally and globally.
In his acceptance speech, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Doan Duc Tung expressed his sincere appreciation for the guidance of the Ministry of Education and Training’s leaders and pledged his wholehearted dedication to the strong and sustainable development of Quy Nhon University. For the 2025–2030 term, he and the University’s leadership team will build upon past achievements, promote innovation in management, act decisively in governance, remain closely attuned to real-world needs, and strive to successfully implement the roadmap for university autonomy—reinforcing the University’s reputation and standing in Vietnam’s higher education system.

Key priorities include: achieving regional quality standards and ranking among the Top 100 Southeast Asian universities under QS Asia; establishing Quy Nhon University with constituent schools and developing a major National Defense and Security Education Center for the region; expanding enrollment to 20,000 students; raising the proportion of faculty with doctoral degrees to 60%; enhancing training quality, launching programs aligned with societal needs, completing accreditation for 100% of teacher education programs, and reaching 60% accreditation levels for all programs to meet domestic and international standards; reforming governance toward efficiency and agility, incorporating digital and AI technologies; intensifying science and technology research in collaboration with localities and enterprises; establishing a science and technology enterprise; and deepening international integration.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Doan Duc Tung was born in 1975 and earned his Bachelor’s, Master’s, and Doctorate degrees in Electrical Engineering from Hanoi University of Science and Technology in 2000, 2004, and 2009, respectively. He was awarded the academic title of Associate Professor in Electrical Engineering in early 2020. Before receiving the Decision of Appointment as Rector of Quy Nhon University under Decision No. 1738 dated June 28, 2024, he had held various positions at the University, including Deputy Dean of the Faculty of Engineering and Technology, Dean of the Faculty of Engineering and Technology, Head of the Facilities Department, and Vice Rector. He currently serves as a Deputy of the People’s Council of Gia Lai Province, Term XII (2021–2026).
