ICT - On the afternoon of February 4, Quy Nhon University (QNU) was honored to welcome Assoc.Prof.Dr. Hoang Minh Son - Deputy Minister of Education and Training to the University. The Deputy Minister was formally welcomed by Assoc.Prof.Dr. Do Ngoc My - Rector of QNU, Assoc.Prof.Dr. Nguyen Quang Ngoan - Chairman of QNU’s University Council, Vice Rectors, Chairwoman of QNU’s Trade Union and leaders of faculties, departments, institutes and centers of QNU.

At the meeting, Assoc.Prof.Dr. Do Ngoc My expressed his joy and honor of welcoming Deputy Minister Hoang Minh Son to QNU. He presented a brief overview of QNU’s development with its strengths in pedagogical training since its establishment in 1977 and the time QNU became a multidisciplinary higher education institution in 2003. He said that Binh Dinh province was a key economic sub-region in the South of the Central - Central Highlands regions, and that Quy Nhon was a cultural city with considerable potential, which as a good opportunity for QNU to demonstrate its role and importance in innovation, and at the same time to train quality human resources for Binh Dinh province in particular and the region in general. He affirmed that there were still many challenges but with the determination and all-out effort of its entire staff, in the coming time, QNU would strive to complete all assigned tasks. He also expressed the hope that leaders at all levels of ministries and branches would continue to pay attention to and support QNU so that QNU, together with other educational institutions across the country would fulfill the great task of training quality human resources.

Visiting QNU, Deputy Minister Hoang Minh Son was impressed by its location and campus. He also listened to QNU’s leadership talk about its difficulties and problems as well as its proposals concerning its management, training, scientific research and community service.
On that basis, the leaders of the units proposed that the Ministry of Education and Training should reconsider the allocation of quotas for full-time enrollment for undergraduate students of teacher training programs under Decree 116 applied to public universities, create favourable conditions for lecturers of higher education institutions to go abroad for professional development under Project 89, grant more autonomy to public universities in organizing international workshops. In addition, QNU also made some recommendations to the Ministry of Education and Training on remuneration policies for lecturers; allocate funds for the Vietnam - Laos protocol, foster cooperation in training Lao students, adjust the number of scientific research projects based on the capacity of each educational institution so that these institutions can fulfill their responsibilities in scientific research, innovation, technology transfer, and community service and regional development.
Having listened to the comments and proposals of QNU, Deputy Minister Hoang Minh Son clarified some specific contents. He said that Quy Nhon City was a city in the southern central region with considerable untapped potential and suggested that QNU need to stick to the regional planning, cooperate with the locality in its development strategy with the focus on training teachers for the region.

With the potential and achievements, the Deputy Minister believes that QNU will take advantage of the local and regional potential to boost its strengths in the South Central - Central Highlands regions in particular and the educational system of the country in general.
