ICT - A workshop on Data Science and Its Applications was held both in-person and online by Quy Nhon University (QNU) on December 11. The workshop aimed to collect opinions from domestic and foreign experts, scientists, and related units about the University's Master's program in Applied Data Science.
Assoc.Prof.Dr. Do Ngoc My - Rector of the University speaks at the workshop
Those invited to the workshop were Prof. Dr. Nguyen Thanh Thuy from University of Technology, Vietnam National University, Hanoi; Prof. Dr. Huynh Van Nam from Japan Advanced Institute of Science and Technology; Prof. Dr. Nguyen Xuan Hung from CIRTECH Institute, Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology; Assoc.Prof.Dr. Nguyen Dinh Thuc, Dr. Nguyen Tan Trung from University of Science, Vietnam National University, Ho Chi Minh City and representatives from some enterprises such as TMA Solutions Binh Dinh company, FPT Softwave Quy Nhon company, Hung Thinh Joint-stock Company. On the side of the University, the attendees included Assoc.Prof.Dr. Do Ngoc My, Rector of QNU; Heads of some units such as Postgraduate Training Department, Undergraduate Training Department, Faculty of Science, Technology & International Cooperation, Faculty of Information Technology, Faculty of Mathematics - Statistics as well as a number of lecturers and students interested in this field.
The workshop dealt with two topics: in-depth discussions and academic exchanges of leading experts in the fields of Mathematics, Information Technology, Artificial Intelligence and Data Science and the orientation of construction and development of the undergraduate and Master’s programs in Applied Data Science at QNU as well as proposals of representatives of some technology enterprises.
Speaking at the workshop, Assoc.Prof.Dr. Do Ngoc My emphasized that developing the training program in Data Science had great practical significance and the updated training program according to Circular 17/2021/TT-BGDĐT issued by the Ministry of Education and Training on June 22, 2021, which focused on some key factors which were practical, inter-level, interdisciplinary, flexible and diverse in methods of enrollment and assessment of learning outcomes, saying that QNU also "listened" to the market to have appropriate data science training orientations. At the same time, he also called on experts, scientists, and technology enterprises to cooperate and accompany QNU in the training of Applied Data Science to diversify human resources with a view to serving the community.
Through the workshop, Assoc.Prof.Dr. Do Ngoc My thanked the scientists and enterprises for their very valid and practical comments. He emphasized that the workshop was a place where experts and scientists shared and discussed professional knowledge, and at the same time synthesized advice and proposals to help QNU develop its undergraduate and Master’s science training programs which were modern, synchronous, and of its own identity but still ensures the core requirements of a training program in Data Science and Artificial Intelligence.
The Master’s Applied Data Science program is part of the cooperation program between QNU and the Vingroup Innovation Fund (VinIF) of the Big Data Research Institute (VinBigdata) of Vingroup.
The Master’s program in Applied Data Science began to be implemented in 2020. The program's goal is to develop master's programs in Applied Mathematics Data Science, which combine in-depth theory and practice, aiming to reach the international level.
