"The National Key Program for Mathematical Development for the period of 2010 to 2020" approved by the Prime Minister in Decision No. 1483 / QD-TTg dated August 17, 2010 with the aim of substainably developing Vietnam’s mathematics in all aspects: research, application and teaching in both quantity and quality, commensurate with the intellectual potential of the Vietnamese people, meeting Vietnam's development in different fields such as science, technology, education and training, economy and defense. Great efforts will be made so that in 2020, Vietnam’s Mathematics can be ranked among the most advanced in the world and achieves the sustainable development, creating a basis for Vietnam to become a country with strong mathematics in the next period.

Mathematics award ceremony 2018 (in Hanoi)
The annually held mathematics award is one of the important contents of the Program and of great significance in promoting the construction of a modern Vietnamese mathematics system, meeting the world standards. At the same time, it has a strong impact on the Mathematics teaching and training in school, encouraging the contingent of lecturers and teachers to research and use research results in teaching and training the younger generation. Thereby, it will gradually build up a contingent of excellent math lecturers in universities and colleges who are both good at teaching Mathematics and researching and applying Mathematics, which will help promote the application of mathematics in other sciences.
The year 2020 is the ninth year that the Program has considered and awarded math projects that have been published in prestigious journals in the ISI list. After nine years of considering and awarding math projects (from 2012 to 2020), the total number of awarded projects of QNU’s lecturers has been 57, an average of 6-7 awarded projects per year. This is an honor as well as a great encouragement, both materially and spiritually, helping QNU’s lecturers to strive in their teaching and research.

Mathematics awards winners 2018 (in Hanoi)
Currently, most of the Mathematics lecturers and researchers work in the Department of Mathematics and Statistics. The successes that the lecturers of the Department have achieved are the result of the serious and enthusiastic work of the research teams, the effort and passion of each individual as well as the attention and favorable conditions created by QNU’s leaders. The new results in the study will definitely have a strong impact on the quality of teaching and training in the university environment, especially when QNU’s Department of Mathematics and Statistics runs 2 doctoral programs (Mathematical Analysis; Algebra and Number Theory), 4 Master’s programs (Mathematical calculus; Algebra and number theory; Elementary math method; Applied Data Science) and 3 undergraduate programs (Applied Mathematics; Statistics; Mathematics Pedagogy).
The Department of Mathematics and Statistics is currently very interested in and promoting the research and application of Mathematics, international cooperation and quality accreditation of the training program. Besides, it is also cooperating closely with reputable companies and enterprises in the field of technology (such as TMA Solutions, FPT Software, Fujinet Systems, etc) in offering a number of undergraduate programs in Data Science, Industrial Statistics and Master’s programs in Applied Data Science to meet the demand for high-quality human resources as Vietnam enters into the digital age.
