Continuing the series of activities of the National Scientific Seminar: "Green Growth - Corporate Restructuring at the time of the Covid-19 pandemic", on the afternoon of October 10, 2020, Quy Nhon University (QNU) collaborated with the University of Economics - Hanoi National University, University of Electricity, University of Commerce, Institute of Branding and Competition Strategy in organizing the second session of the seminar on professional discussion to create a forum for scientists, experts, and lecturers of QNU to share research results and discuss issues related to green growth.
A general overview of the seminar
The second session of the seminar was held with the participation of many lecturers, researchers of co-organizers, universities, colleges, representatives of departments / Binh Dinh-based agencies and enterprises.
Making the opening speech at the Professional Discussion Session, Assoc.Prof.Dr. Nguyen Dinh Hien - Vice Rector of QNU, on behalf of the Organizing Committee emphasized that in 2020, the Covid-19 pandemic has had a profound impact on the world economy, changing both production trends and consumption direction of a lot of countries, saying that for Vietnam, the problem of corporate governance, the problem of business and production restructuring are urgently needed to match the trend of the world, business development trends. He said that although the Covid-19 pandemic in Vietnam was controlled and production gradually returned to a stable state with a "new normal" state, many enterprises were facing many difficulties and proposed that in the context Vietnam’s economy was gradually adapting to the 'new normal' state, business leaders had to continue to balance the strategy of cutting costs without affecting businesses and turning the direction of investment to growth factors. He affirmed that to prepare for future crises, it was the right time for businesses to take measures to restructure and look for differences in the value chain.

Prologue for the Professional Discussion Session, Assoc.Prof.Dr. Le Anh Tuan - Electricity University presented his study on "Factors affecting innovation activities and operating results in EVNNPC's power companies" with the contents related to: (i ) Pressure to green and innovate the power sector, (ii) Introduction to innovation, (iii) Proposed models and factors affecting innovation activities in electricity distribution enterprises. The research results came to the conclusion that: (i) Innovation activities are of great importance to the power sector and specifically power distribution enterprises, (ii) Research results clearly indicate the Organizational Learning, Human Resource Capability, Vendor Involvement have a positive impact on Management Innovation and Management Innovation indirectly impact Performance through Technological Innovation, (iii) Leadership support in this study has only indirect effects on Management Innovation.

Following the presentation at the seminar, Le Thi My Tu, MA – QNU, presented her study on "Researching the effect of intellectual capital on the performance of technology companies in the digital economy context". Research presented the concept of intellectual capital and methods of measuring intellectual capital. The research results came to the conclusion: (i) Vietnam’s technology companies use intellectual capital very well, (ii) Human capital and physical / financial capital are significantly related to the same direction, capital structure does not have a positive effect on enterprise efficiency as demonstrated in technology companies in Vietnam, the exploitation of the ability to create value of intangible assets is not effective, considered waste of resources and (iii) Technology companies in Vietnam are still more dependent on physical / financial capital than on intellectual capital. At the same time, intellectual capital is a pretty good concept in Vietnam, so she proposed further studies should investigate (i) Research on many branches, the tendency to find the difference in the contribution of intellectual capital between high knowledge companies and (ii) Intellectual capital is not just a static intangible asset, investment in intellectual capital and the return of benefits will occur at different times in the present and in the future, dynamic table data approach, (iii) intellectual capital has latent value, not easily recognized and not disclosed in financial statements and the new intellectual capital measurement model is consistent with the reality of Vietnam, extraction of primary data, (iv) Research on the effects of intellectual capital on time segment businesses, after economic events or shocks, and (v) Relationship between intellectual capital and other economic variables other than corporate financial performance in both direct and indirect directions.

At the same time, at the second session of the presentation, Dr. Nguyen Thi Huong Lien - University of Economics, Hanoi National University presented her study on "The impact of corporate governance on the financial performance of listed companies in Vietnam". The study presented some contents related to: (i) Corporate governance situations of Vietnam’s listed companies, (ii) The impact of corporate governance on financial performance of listed companies and (iii) Recommendations to improve corporate governance quality and improve financial performance of listed companies. The research results made recommendations for listed companies: (i) Applying the model with independent members in the Board of Directors as recommended by the World Bank or Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OEDC) to enhance transparency and efficiency, (ii) Selecting a reputable independent auditor with strict and professional auditing and auditing processes of quality control, professional auditors to ensure the quality of audited financial statements, (iii) Ensuring diversity in the number of members of the Board of Directors to effectively implementing the functions of the council, increasing the quality of decision-making, through which improving an enterprise's operational efficiency.

The participants conducted very active discussions on the presented topics such as perspectives on intellectual capital, which methods of optimal measurement or the difference between intellectual capital and intellectual emotions, the importance of intellectual capital versus financial capital, or a view of innovation associated with green growth and influencing factors in particular firms, or approaches to financial governance in a changing environment, and green growth issues, etc. In addition, the researchers also exchanged their opinions on issues related to research sampling methods, research methods and research models about green growth-related issues.

Making a concluding speech at the seminar, Assoc.Prof.Dr. Nguyen Dinh Hien, on behalf of the Organizing Committee, summarized the results achieved at the seminar and proposed that researchers and scientists promote cooperation in research, build strong research groups and interdisciplinary research groups to increase the quality of international research and publication, promote scientific research in association with socio-economic and business realities, and promote more in-depth research towards green growth. He also suggested that studies should focus on post-Covid-19 pandemic green growth, green growth associated with digitization in the context of the industrial revolution 4.0. At the same time, he expressed his heartfelt thanks to the scientists, economic experts and enterprises for writing articles and attending the seminar.
