On the morning of December 3, 2020 at Quy Nhon University (QNU), the Vietnam Institute for Advanced Studies in Mathematics (VIASM) in collaboration with QNU offered the 2020 Training Course for Lecturers in the Central region, the Central Highlands and Southern region with the theme "Modern statistics with R statistical software".
Attending the opening ceremony were Assoc.Prof.Dr. Do Ngoc My - Rector of QNU, Ms. Tran Thi Bich Diep - Chief Accountant of VIASM, Assoc.Prof.Dr. Le Cong Trinh - Dean of the Faculty of Mathematics & Statistics. The lecturers in charge of the training course were Assoc.Prof.Dr. Ngo Hoang Long - Hanoi University of Education, Dr. Ngo Thi Thanh Nga - Thang Long University, Dr. Le Thanh Binh - QNU. Attending the training course were 49 lecturers of Probability, Statistics from universities and colleges in the Central region – the Central Highlands and the Southern region and QNU students of Applied Mathematics and Mathematics Education.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Assoc.Prof.Dr. Do Ngoc My, Rector of QNU, welcomed all the lecturers and students from universities and colleges to the training course. He emphasized the important role of Modern Statistics in different fields of life from Mathematics to Natural Sciences, Economics - Finance - Banking, Social Sciences & Humanities, adding that to keep up with the career trends of the Industrial Revolution 4.0, Mathematics and Statistics would play a key role and this training was a great opportunity for participants to update and improve their professional skills, which helped improve the quality of training in universities and colleges. He also thanked the Advanced Research Institute of Mathematics for its choice of QNU as the venue for this training course as well as for its cooperation with and support for QNU during the past time.
Overview of the opening ceremony
The training course "Modern Statistics with R Statistical Software," which ran at QNU for 4 days (from December 3-6, 2020), is one of the events in the 2020 plans and tasks of the “National Key Program for the Development of Mathematics for the 2010-2020 period”. The training course aims to equip and consolidate a basic knowledge of statistics and application of R software to analyze and process data so that lecturers and students can master statistics, especially the use of R statistical software, to improve the quality of the teaching and learning of statistics in universities and colleges across the country. After the opening ceremony, the trainees started their first training session under the professional guidance of some reputable experts in statistics.
